NO POWER?

There could be many reasons why your power is out. Look to see if it all circuits that have lost power. i.e. do you have lights but no power sockets? Use our flow chart to see if you can restore your power. If you have no power, check with your neigbours to see if they have power. Also check with the Energex Outages site.

DAMAGE TO ELECTRCIAL SUPPLY

Following a significant weather event, some properties may loose power due to infrastructure damage. Once Energex repair this, they will restore power back to your property if it is safe to do so.

However, If there is damage to your electrical system, they will leave the power disconnected and advise what is required to be able to restore. Contact your property manager and keep the defect notice handy for when the electrician attends.

TRIPPING SWITCHES

If you find that some of your electrical circuits are working and some are not, this could be due to a tripped circuit breaker, or a tripped sfety switch. They do different jobs to protect you and the electrical installation.

Circuit Breakers (Or Fuses) - These protect the cables from current overload and the portential to overheat, damaging the cables protective insulation. These could be tripping if there is a short circuit.

Safety Switches - These monitor the circuit for any electrical current leaking from the circuit. You will be able to recongise them by the additional TEST button on the device.

If you have power and cannot turn on circuit breakers or reset your safety switch you need to follow a few steps. These may help get the power back on and not need an elecricain to call.
